KNG-Kärnten Netz GmbH

KNG-Kärnten Netz GmbH (KAERNTEN NETZ) is a 100%-subsidiary of the KELAG-Kärntner Elektrizitäts-Aktiengesellschaft.

As a distribution network operator (DSO), KAERNTEN NETZ provides its electrical and natural gas network infrastructure to all customers and energy suppliers in Carinthia. As one of the biggest companies in Carinthia it is providing work for approximately 620 employees, who are keeping the grid up and running at all time.

Acting as an enabler of the energy transition the company is making its footprint in the integration of renewable energies, advanced decentralization, digitalization and decarbonisation. The main tasks of KAERNTEN NETZ include operational management, planning, building, commissioning and maintaining of the distribution system assets for electricity and natural gas, while ensuring efficient outage clearance management.

Role in epowermove

The role of the KNG within the project is to bring in our expertise in the area of grid planning and operation to investigate the impact of bidirectional charging to the grid. Furthermore, we are taskleader of the subtask 3.2.1 (Grid-level management solutions) where we are providing a scheduling tool for charging points based forecasted grid analysis. Moreover, we will coordinate and monitor possible flexibility activation to ensure a safe grid operation.
